Spinal Disc Herniation Needs Expert’s Treatment

Spinal disc prolapse or spinal disc herniation is a condition where a spinal disc is slipped and a tear forces the enclosed portion to bulge out. The patient suffers from severe pain. The pain may be felt in the neck and in the arm. The effected 6th or 7th nerve leads to one third of all the neck pains. It is known as cervical radiculopathy. Immediate contact with pain clinic should be made. Physiotherapists there treat it with best possible options.

Treating radiculopathy also needs some care about the factors that can restrict the recovery like smoking, working with heavy loads, running vibrating machines. The reasons behind radiculopathy may vary from sudden, continuous extension; side bending or rotation sometimes closes the exit point and squeezing the nerve as a result. It leads to nerve injury. Heavy load on neck can also cause neck nerve damage.

Before starting chronic pain treatment, physiotherapists make a complete picture of the patient regarding history, causes, location, ways of relaxing and excretory functions status. People suffering from this pain use various ways to minimize it either by supporting their neck with hand or using their arm as protective measure by putting it against the stomach. Despite all this the patient doesn’t enjoy a good night’s sleep and even fails to perform well in his job tasks.

For treatment physiotherapists use cold therapy, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), manual and physical tractions and advise patients to avoid all bad postures that intensify the pain. After the pain is controlled, the attention is diverted towards neck muscles specific exercises. Before going for any self medication or exercises the physiotherapist should be consulted because wrong practice can cause serious harm to your neck.
